The grieving mother of the 9-year-old Canadian girl allegedly murdered by her own father was in New York today—likely to identify the body of her dead daughter.
Melina Frattolin, 9, was allegedly murdered by her own father, 45-year-old Luciano Frattolin, Saturday night in upstate New York's Adirondack mountains, where the two were vacationing, The Free Lance reported Monday morning.
Melina's mother, who has not yet been named, visited with State Police Monday with two companions.
"No comment," one of her friends answered for her in French-tinged English when asked for her thoughts Monday afternoon as the trio took a break in a nearby town.
The Free Lance is withholding the mother's name at this time because she declined to speak for the record and has not yet been identified.
She graduated Columbia University's prestigious foreign affairs school, lives in Montreal and works for the Canadian government. After college, she studied the impact of America's first war against Iraq on Iraqi children for War Child Canada. Later she served on its Board of Directors.
Wearing dark black sunglass and accompanied by two other stylishly-dressed women, the trio appeared to be given directions to the remote location where Melina's body was discovered. They went the other way instead.
They headed north toward Canada later that afternoon.

Meanwhile, her former partner and the father of their daughter, Luciano Frattolin, was arraigned on second degree murder and remanded to the Essex County jail. A preliminary hearing will be held to determine whether sufficient evidence exists to detain him pending indictment by the Grand Jury.
He is due back in court on Friday.
